FLOOD UPDATE: Thanks to your quick and generous pledges, I was able to transfer $1,000 to Khanh at Hearts for Hue this evening. We will be providing emergency supplies to 50 families in Dan Dien village, which is still inundated by flood water (See photos below). I can't thank you enough for reacting to this serious situation. Central Vietnam is reeling from the most severe flooding in decades. Khanh, Chairman of Hearts for Hue, wrote to me, advising that 1.739.6 meters (68.5") of rain fell in 24 hours on Bach Ma Mountain, situated just outside Hue. This is the greatest rainfall ever recorded in Central Vietnam. The result was immediate and devastating. Hue City and outlying villages were inundated with 1-2 meters and more. Over 44,000 homes were flooded at a depth of .5 to 2 meters and greater. In all of Central Vietnam, 128,000 homes were flooded, electricity knocked out, and livestock, crops, and aquaculture seriously affected. Classrooms were flooded, schools closed, and school supplies destroyed. This record rainfall was followed by more precipitation, bringing Hue's 2-week total to 2.452 meters (96.54").
